WHAT IS MILK-RUN?
Milk-run, or the milkman's principle, defines a system that consists in determining a fixed route for the distribution of full milk bottles and collection of empty ones. The route begins and ends in the same place, most often making a circle, and the bottles are provided and collected by one milkman. The concept has been adopted for logistics and strongly combines with the principles of Lean Manufacturing. The use of Milk-run in production based on the Kanban suction system eliminates wastage (Muda), ensuring that deliveries are made more often, in small batches, exactly when work stations show a need for specific components.
